I haven't had the time to blog an entry at all. Time's are tough, thinking that mid-way through the year and I feel the time-crunch already. Projects are flying left and right and its pretty much imperative everything starts falling into place.

I can't believe I have not watched G.I. Joe yet. It's like... a mortal sin for a geek like me! But that is the case, but hopefully I catch within the next few days. Lots of big movies coming out, like Up and the Hangover. Sadly, District 9 doesn't look to be coming out in Manila anytime soon, but I am definitely looking forward to watching that. It's got that alien segregation premise that is such a big thing nowadays with all the racism that we see across the globe. Taking that to a science fiction level is so cool. And don't get me started on (500) Days of Summer. That movie is like THE movie that I cannot wait to watch. I sincerely hope we see it in Manila soon and that I will not have to resort to downloading it off the net. I spent the majority of the three days at home, save for a busy Friday (Thank you Rizal for the extra day off) where I renewed my license, went to the bank, had a haircut and attended the 2nd day of the CLP of SFC.

Saturday was more sleeping and surfing the internet, save for a well-deserved break for light football and dinner with the team. I cannot wait to play in the last weekend of eliminations for the Republic Cup. I am sincerely excited to kick the ball around with some of the top non-professional players in the country.

---------

Happy Father's Day (belated, I know) to all the dads out there. To my dad in particular, thanks for totally taking care of me and giving a great role model for future reference. As my good friend put it, the night was epic. Kaskade was definitely kicking it to a different level and the music was better than I imagined it to be. Just the right buzz, awesome people and sensational music equals one helluva party. Thanks to all the people I met, drank with, danced and talked to last Saturday. Let's do it again soon.

And if any of you haven't gotten a copy, be sure to grab Kaskade's Strobelite Seduction. It costs a great deal to watch that movie in the only IMAX theatre in the Philippines, but I'm sure watching it on giant 6-storey screen is going to be EPIC. Total geek overload. I totally drooled during the first movie so I can only imagine how this one is going to totally blow my mind. I know the cliche about sequels, but I'm still confident that this movie will be good. Sure, they cleaned the ending up fairly well, in true Joss Whedon fashion, but it ended with a bang. I watched a lot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer back in the day, and although Dollhouse definitely has more suspense, gore and mature material, its got the basic Joss Whedon signs. And as always the fantastic Eliza Dushku is in the awesome show.

The premise of the show is there is a secret, underground high-end prostitution house that uses people with no memories called dolls. They are imprinted with whatever personality or character the client wishes and is then sent on engagements. It goes all awry as FBI, police and rogue dolls attempt to rock the boat. It is CRAZY. And it helps that you've got, like I said, Elizha Dushku. I love that Amy Acker is in this show too, although since she's kind of carved up, you can't really enjoy her natural grace and beauty. Nontheless, its an intersting premise that has kept me glued to my seat.

I think a lot of people will love the show for the story and suspense. I thought it might be fun to see what Whedon had cooked up and I was definitely not disappointed. I just hoope it doesn't go downt he road of Heroes, a show that I loved for one season but suddenly decided was getting a bit off-track.

got this off twitter

"Hi, my name is Vista. The former I'm listening to right now on MySpace (home of the best music from the mainstream, the indie to the amateur). Sounds pretty good so far, my kind of alternative rock. My review to come in the next weeks. Until then, might I recommend one of my favorite albums of 2009, Shhhh... Just go With it by Every Avenue.

This powerpop / alternative rock band from Michigan was something I discovered from a friend of mine early this year and it has definitely been THE best album I've been listening to. The album came out a few years back but it doesn't matter because I'm pretty sure it hasn't been played in the Philippines yet. The music and lyrics are great, emo without being overly dark and dramatic. I love the mix of fast punk songs to the slow and steady rock ballads. I can't think of a favorite, but probably the most notable song on the album was "Between You and I", which caught my ear the moment I heard it. But don't get me wrong, each song is a classic waiting to happen and its nice to get albums where the band puts in a ton of effort on each track.

I cannot wait for their next full length album, which I hope will be a lot of the same,

-------------

My interns are growing up! hahaha. Their last day and final presentation is tomorrow and obviously as doting stage-mentor/father, I can't wait for my intern to kick ass. I love Transformers. I was giddy like a child in a candy store when the first movie came out. I was seriously all into it. I mean I LOVED it. I admit the story was so-so, and they KILLED JAZZ. But the fact you could see the cars transform into robots was INCREDIBLE.

And so I cannot wait for the sequel to come out a few days before my birthday. It's like a little gift to me. And I know its a few weeks away, but I cannot contain my excitement. The trailers, promo shots and exclusive "leaked" photographs have definitely gotten me into a frenzy. Soundwave, Devastator... I wonder what new Autobots will be in the movie. We only hear a lot about the Decepticons. (Shows that we want more bad guys in the movie. Come on let's hear it for the good robots!). I personally can't wait when a future movie may have Hot Rod, who was my favorite Autobot. And yes, the classic cartoon movie was a fan favorite when I was younger.

So as the day the movie comes out draws closer, I can hardly contain my excitement because this is the movie I am most excited about this "summer". (Also waiting for GI Joe, and some other ones as well. New Moon can just shrivel up and die for all I care though)

-------------

Can't wait to take out my new camera on a road test. I hope it turns out as I hope it will. Test shots up soon.

rainy days aren't that glum

It's been a rainy Saturday but its all good. I love music in general, although as you'll probably come to realize, I'm more of a rock star wannabee than a crooner or rapper. But that doesn't mean I don't enjoy the pop or R&B track here and there. I love my house music as well.

Part of what to do with my blog is to share what I'm listening to right now. Sure, a lot of this stuff might not be new to people on the web or in other parts of the world. But here in Manila, where majority of the airplay is either local (and the local music scene has definitely grown up over the past decade that I've been "musically aware") or mainstream, I think my playlist has a few interesting artists and songs, here and there. There will probably be a definite rock feel to this whole segment, but I'll try to mix it up as best as I can.

-----------------

First up is a band from Florida called Mayday Parade. They're a rock band but they've got a bit of punk in them too. I love the sound and song writing has been pretty inspired. Their latest album was released back in 2007 called A Lesson in Romantics with Fearless Records. I recently heard of this label from trolling through MySpace and I have to say, they have some pretty interesting artists. My favorite track from the album is the melancholic and extremely emo "Miserable at Best". I love slow rock, so sue me!

Can't wait to catch their next album later this year under Atlantic Records.

apples and birthdays

Can't wait for what is coming out of the WWDC this year. Rumors abound of new iPhone and MacBook upgrades, among others. Although I'm not completely sold on the iPhone just yet as a business platform, I am completely in love with anything Apple and I stand by their products. True, they cost a bit more than most of the other things out in the market, but the functionality and cool factor are worth the extra thousands.

Can't wait to finally get a new MacBook / MacBook Pro in the not so near future. Its still in the pipeline but I am pretty sure my old iBook G4 needs a major upgrade soon. But thats not what I'm getting this weekend as my "big purchase for 2009".

---------------

My birthday is right around the corner (ok, maybe thats an exaggeration). Still have no idea what I'm going to do to celebrate. I think the past year is worth celebrating so I definitely want to do something. This weekends "gift to myself" doesn't count. Ideas anyone?

leave me for dead. please.

I thought I left network gaming behind when I realized the Counterstrike and myself were not made for each other. I sucked at that game, to the point that playing it with friends seemed like a lost cause. I had more deaths than frags on any given day. After that, I vowed to stick to single player games which let me win at my own pace. I would rather be a detriment to my own success than to drag my team down. So I played the RPGs and the RTS games, shacking up at home to pursue my gamer life.

But as of late, I've moved on to playing Left 4 Dead, one of the first person shooters I vowed to never play. But I have to say, its been an addictive experience. Sure, I must be months behind the majority of the gamers out there, but at least I made it onto the bandwagon just in time. The game puts more focus on team work and cooperative play, something that Counterstrike gaming in the Philippines didn't have. Add to that the opportunity to play as zombies that hunt for humans and you've got one of the most surreal game experiences ever. I enjoy it a whole lot more than a lot of the other things out there.

---------------

I realize that MMORPGs and online gaming is the biggest trend to hit the computer gaming industry, particularly here in the Philippines. Sure, you have a lot of people enjoying the various console systems, but I think in general, the world of online gaming continues to be the fast growing segment. I know it might just be reflecting globalization and how the entire world is being connected by technology and the internet, but I think one fo the biggest reasons that is driving this industry is that income can be assured much easier than console systems. Unlike console systems that rely on discs or cartridges that can easily be pirated (something that is extremely rampant both here and abroad), MMORPGs can still manage to get income via subscriptions and the like, that cannot be circumvented unless you wan't to play by yourself on an offline version of the game.

---------------

Can't wait for the weekend to roll in. I'm getting a new camera as a little birthday present for myself. Stay tuned for more on that.

If only we had Republic and/or Weekend Football League, and my weekend would be complete.

Testing 1 2 3.
