leave me for dead. please.

I thought I left network gaming behind when I realized the Counterstrike and myself were not made for each other. I sucked at that game, to the point that playing it with friends seemed like a lost cause. I had more deaths than frags on any given day. After that, I vowed to stick to single player games which let me win at my own pace. I would rather be a detriment to my own success than to drag my team down. So I played the RPGs and the RTS games, shacking up at home to pursue my gamer life.

But as of late, I've moved on to playing Left 4 Dead, one of the first person shooters I vowed to never play. But I have to say, its been an addictive experience. Sure, I must be months behind the majority of the gamers out there, but at least I made it onto the bandwagon just in time. The game puts more focus on team work and cooperative play, something that Counterstrike gaming in the Philippines didn't have. Add to that the opportunity to play as zombies that hunt for humans and you've got one of the most surreal game experiences ever. I enjoy it a whole lot more than a lot of the other things out there.

---------------

I realize that MMORPGs and online gaming is the biggest trend to hit the computer gaming industry, particularly here in the Philippines. Sure, you have a lot of people enjoying the various console systems, but I think in general, the world of online gaming continues to be the fast growing segment. I know it might just be reflecting globalization and how the entire world is being connected by technology and the internet, but I think one fo the biggest reasons that is driving this industry is that income can be assured much easier than console systems. Unlike console systems that rely on discs or cartridges that can easily be pirated (something that is extremely rampant both here and abroad), MMORPGs can still manage to get income via subscriptions and the like, that cannot be circumvented unless you wan't to play by yourself on an offline version of the game.

Can't wait for the weekend to roll in. I'm getting a new camera as a little birthday present for myself. Stay tuned for more on that.

If only we had Republic and/or Weekend Football League, and my weekend would be complete.
